“We let things go and then we let ourselves go. We kept on circling in orbit, one round the other, with nothing to aim for. We found ourselves upside down, distant and alone, an inch from the ground, with our centre too high and with less and less weight. Everything we are is at play. The vortex of zero annulled any certainty and demolished our structures as a hurricane destroys houses, and it left us like this, uprooted and exposed, strangers to ourselves and the world we inhabit. Now we keep on trying, in search of a reference point that probably does not even exist, and we are not allowed to stop. But actually roots themselves are not still, never fixed: they dig, unearth, emerge, plunge down again, overwhelm. They search with no regret. And the tree itself, that believes it grows straight towards the sky, has its real life underground in a crazy weft of directions. There is its destiny and it is probably in this movement that the essence of every being becomes real. At the zero point, where everything is ephemeral and evanescent, real life, which is shapeless, takes place.” (E.L.)

Cuenca/Lauro is the artistic collaboration between the two Berlin-based dancers and choreographers César Augusto Cuenca Torres and Elisabetta Lauro. They received a Diploma in Performing Arts at the Folkwang University of Arts and finish a biennial master, majoring in interpretation. They work with the taiwanese director Wu Kuo-Chu for the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre and the Wuppertal Schauspielhaus and are guests in „ Le Sacre du Printemps“ of Pina Bausch.

In 2004 they became stable members of the State Theatre of Kassel, directed first by the taiwanese choreographer Wu Kuo-Chu and then by the Berlin choreographer Johannes Wieland. They create work and perform among others with Malou Airaudo, Yossi Berg & Oded Graf, Rootlessroot and the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre.

Back to the freelance dance scene in 2011 they focus on their own productions. An excerpt of their first piece “Hay un no sé que no sé donde” wins the Special Mention of the Jury and the Audience Prize at the Masdanza Choreographic Contest 2013, is selected for the italian network Anticorpi XL ’12 and is invited to various international festivals. Their new creation (zero) work in progress is finalist at the italian award Outlet 2014, is selected for the Anticorpi XL Network ’14 and part of the project Permutazioni/Zerogrammi. The project has been awarded with the production prize Premio Equilibrio Roma 2015.
